90,000sqm Floor Slab Design & Supervision

March 26, 2012

Industrial development in the United Arab EmiratesSince it was first established in 2007, FACE Middle East Fzc (FACE M.E.) has assisted owners and engineers in the design and construction of warehouse and industrial floors.

For new build or conversion, FACE M.E. offered advice on the critical design stage including floor flatness requirements and jointing plans – decisions that will have long term impact on the cost effective operation of facilities.

A recent and major achievement for FACE M.E. was the design and supervision of 90,000m2 of external slab and design & supervision of 90,000m2 of internal slab which stretched over 9 buildings at an industrial development in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). All 90,000m2 of internal slab was surveyed to meet with FM2 floor flatness specification. The main contractor also hired CoGri Middle East LLC’s (CGME) Laser Screed to speed up the work and to act as a standby. This is great news considering that the Laser Screed has only been permanently stationed in Dubai since December 2011.

Working for another flooring contractor who is building an extension for a client in Jebel Ali, Dubai, FACE M.E. was on-site to supervise construction initially then returned to survey the slab using the FACE Appendix C Profileograph. The flooring contractor was happy with what they achieved as the results showed the floor complied with the limits of specification. They then built the rest of the floor by long strip construction and FACE M.E. surveyed 56 aisles at 60m long to DM2 specification.

Face Consultants Middle East Design & Supervision

Face Consultants Conducting On-Site Supervision in the Middle EastOn the design front, FACE completed design work for a small cold store with a portal framed structure (a temporary building) in Qatar and has also carried out design work on a new 12,000m2 facility which forms part of an airport in the Middle East region. This included a mixture of VNA and block stacking. FACE M.E. will then go on-site to supervise the construction of the floor which will be built by a local flooring contractor. This project is due to start in April. This was an interesting project for FACE as it had different design elements in that the facility included a freezer store, VNA and free movement areas. This meant the floor had variable slab depths in each area.

CoGri Middle East Grinding Contract

CoGri Middle East was awarded a Laser Grinding contract for a company in the UAE. The facility has an existing building where the client wants to install VNA racking, however the Profileograph survey showed the floor was not suitable for VNA operation. The racking will have a top pallet height of over 15m. In total there are 11 aisles, with a total distance of VNA just over 1,000m. With the Laser Grinder® delivered to site, the team have started grinding whole aisle width to DM1 floor flatness specification.

Recently, CGME won another Laser Grinding contract in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, which includes 12 aisles totalling over 800m in total to be ground to DM1 specification. The racking will have a top pallet height over 13m. They will also be repairing 2 expansion joints per aisle.
